Reading and Leeds Festival 2016
Reading and Leeds Festival organisers today named the first ten acts confirmed for the line-up for next years weekender – with US funk-rock veterans Red Hot Chili Peppers named as headliners.
The Chili Peppers have got a brand new album set for release next year, and will return to Reading and Leeds for the first time since headlining the festival in 2007.
According to drummer Chad Smith the band all answered ‘Reading and Leeds’ simultaneously when they were asked which UK festival they wanted to headline next year.
Festival organiser Melvin Benn, who has signed up the Chili Peppers for a 2016 UK festival exclusive, said:
I’m thrilled to be able to announce Red Hot Chili Peppers as the first headliner for Reading & Leeds 2016, as a festival exclusive. Their incredible live show will be an unforgettable headline performance at the UK’s biggest music festival.
We’ve still got some really exciting names to announce and I can’t wait to reveal the rest of the line up. It’s going to be our best year yet.
Other acts confirmed for the festival line-up today include The 1975, Courteeners, Slaves, HINDS, Rat Boy and DJ EZ.
The 1975 will also have their new album – I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It – out by the time festival season rolls round.
Firm fan favourites Courteeners are also set to shine next year on the back of their latest album Concrete Love.
Reading and Leeds Festival 2016 runs from 26-28 August 2016.
