There’s been a fair bit of rumour and speculation over the last few days, after members of Rage Against The Machine started directing fans to a new website called prophetsofrage.com
The website features the hashtag #TAKETHEPOWERBACK along with a timer counting down to the 31 May, along with an email sign-up box.
This all led to fans to the conclusion that the legendary political rap-rock group were set for a big comeback this year, possibly involving a new album and tour.
Today sources close to Billboard have confirmed that there is indeed something new coming, but it’s not exactly what fans originally hoped for.
Billboard’s sources claim that members of Rage Against The Machine – all of them except frontman Zack De La Rocha – will be teaming up with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real for a new supergroup called Prophets Of Rage.
These sources confirm that the new group will play gigs in LA next month, performing a mixture of songs from all three bands’ back catalogues.
There is also talk of a wider tour this summer – but we may have to wait for the official announcement at the end of this month for any news on that.
The new band name is taken from Public Enemy’s song ‘Prophets Of Rage’ which featured on their seminal 1988 album It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back:
This won’t be the first time Rage Against The Machine and Public Enemy have joined forces, watch them perform together at a festival back in 1996:
