As promised, Radiohead finally delivered their new album last night.

The album – the band’s ninth studio long player – is called A Moon Shaped Pool and was made available to buy digitally from the dedicated website www.amoonshapedpool.com

Surprisingly for Radiohead, the release of A Moon Shaped Pool all feels a bit conventional. There’s no clever release strategy involving BitTorrent (as with Thom Yorke’s recent solo effort Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes) or a pay-what-you-like system as with In Rainbows.

Just go to the site and pay to download it in your chosen format, or order the vinyl/CD versions which will ship next month.

All a bit boring isn’t it?

Radiohead – A Moon Shaped Pool streaming options

Given Thom Yorke’s well-known dislike for Spotify, it’s not surprising that A Moon Shaped Pool isn’t available to stream there. It raises the question why the two ‘lead’ singles Burn The Witch and Daydreaming are available on Spotify if Thom hates them so much? It seems his hate doesn’t trump Radiohead’s and XL Recordings’ desire to promote and sell as much ‘units’ of A Moon Shaped Pool as possible – but that’s a discussion for another time!

If you want to stream A Moon Shaped Pool online then you’re only real option is to use Tidal or Apple Music – as it is available on there and to buy through iTunes.

However, UK residents can access a free stream of A Moon Shaped Pool thanks to the good old BBC. 6 Music hosted a ‘listening party’ last night and played the album in full, which is available on iPlayer for the next 29 days. Will A Moon Shaped Pool ever be on Spotify?

Hopefully. As we’ve already mentioned, both Burn The Witch and Daydreaming are both available to stream on Spotify – so it seems logical that the album will eventually be available on there as well.

Indeed, a Spotify spokesman told Billboard yesterday“Radiohead’s new singles ‘Burn The Witch’ and ‘Daydreaming’ are already available on Spotify, and we look forward to making the rest of A Moon Shaped Pool available on Spotify as soon as we can.”

So there’s hope yet for Spotify users!
