Adele singing

For a long time Adele was known for her reluctance to perform live.

Thankfully the mega-selling singer has managed to banish her stage-fright, and has just embarked on her biggest UK tour to date (buy Adele tickets).

This change has even seen Adele become one of the favourites to headline Glastonbury this year, something that would have been unthinkable a few years ago.

Now that Adele has made the transition to all-conquering arena-filling levels, we thought we’d look back on some of her best live performances to date.

Adele – Someone Like You – Brit Awards 2011

Adele released her second album 21 in January 2011, and was fast on the way to becoming one of the biggest and brightest stars in the world of pop. This mesmerising performance of Someone Like You at that years Brit Awards pretty much sealed the deal and turned the singer into a household name. If you listen very carefully you can just about hear a pin drop somewhere in the O2 Arena.

Adele – Rolling In The Deep – Live on Letterman

Rolling In The Deep was probably the song of 2011, and Adele followed up her triumphant performance at the 2011 Brits with an equally composed and inspiring performance on US chat show Letterman. After conquering the UK, it was now time for the US to fall completely in love with Adele.

Adele – Someone Like You – Royal Albert Hall

This performance of Someone Like You matches the intensity of the Brit Awards performance, but has the added benefit of a heartfelt speech beforehand from the typically honest and straight-talking Adele. Watching it really makes you wonder why she was so against performing live for so long, as she seems like a complete natural in front of a huge crowd.

Adele – Skyfall – Oscars 2013

Her last live performance before taking some well-earned time away from the spotlight, a heavily pregnant Adele looked stunning in a sequinned dress as she provided the musical highlight of the 2013 Oscars ceremony.

Adele – NPR Music Tiny Desk

At the height of the madness that was the promotional tour for 21, Adele sat down for an intimate performance for US public radio station NPR. It makes for a rare chance to see Adele up close and personal singing some of her biggest songs – Someone Like You, Chasing Pavements and Rolling In The Deep.

Adele – Rumour Has It – Royal Albert Hall

Back at the Royal Albert Hall for this fantastic performance of Rumour Has It, most of which was used for the song’s official video.

Adele – Cold Shoulder – MTV Unplugged

Adele not only gave fans an early glimpse of her talent with this live rendition of Cold Shoulder back in 2009, but also revealed her frank and open nature when discussing the inspiration of the song: “I’m over that boy, I’ve gotten my revenge back on him…I’m doing MTV unplugged, he still works at a phone shop.”

Adele – Lovesong – iTunes Festival 2011

Being a great live performer involves covering other bands songs and bringing something new to them. Something Adele does brilliantly with this cover of The Cure’s famous hit Lovesong.
